She Rocks Awards at NAMM

It was such an honor to be invited back to cover the She Rocks Awards part of the NAMM show this year! This event honors women in music and audio. There is nothing like starting this music weekend with such a welcoming environment. Women are on stage, backstage, behind the mixers and running cameras.

It all took place at this beautiful venue, “The Ranch,” in Anaheim. The event venue was separate from the restaurant, a lovely nightclub with an electric guitar mirror ball!

Highlights included Noelle Scaggs of Fitz & the Tantrums, Shelly Peiken who co-wrote Christina Aguilera’s, “What a Girl Wants,” and Meredith Brooks’ smash, “Bitch.” Also, songwriter/producer Michelle Bell, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears, Nas and Timbaland.

Great music took place between the awards, including an awesome set by The Beaches. You can see this band in Boise NEXT TUESDAY 4/25 at THE SHREDDER! I highly recommend it, and listen to The River to win free tickets!

The big event was seeing the legendary Judy Collins. Judy has been making music for 63 years. She’s seen a thing or two. The Beaches watched in awe, as Judy Collins announced what a great band they were!

aaaaa

Judy Collins has over 50 albums, and you can see her IN BOISE May 13th at Egyptian Theatre!

Laura B. Whitmore is the founder of She Rocks Awards, and Women’s International Music Network. (The WiMN). She is always so great at hosting. She stood near me with her notes, and I asked if I might grab a photo. When she heard a tiny audio glitch, she grabbed her things and ran! She kept things going to smoothly at these awards. It was nice to see her wandering around at NAMM the next day.

Here’s one of the many awesome panels you can see at NAMM. This one is Overcoming Roadblocks to Diversity.

When the event was over, everyone left with a generous free goody bag from sponsors. There were drumsticks, finger exercisers, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker, rock and roll red lipstick, and tons of other treats! That, the amazing dinner, the awards, and the show are worth every penny of your ticket.

This unique event is empowering, and inspirational. It was great to see so many women in audio, and the men who support them. I’m soon mixing The National Parks, Ruston Kelly, and Joseph sessions here in Boise. This event keeps me learning, and going strong. You can watch the entire She Rocks Awards HERE!

I cannot wait for next year’s show. NAMM happens next year January 25-28, in Anaheim.
