My Strange Darling, tells the story of a performer who, beneath the glittering spotlight of a 1950s inspired variety show, retreats each night into solitude to construct a robot. Set within a stylized world, the work explores the fragile space between technology and tenderness, and the costs we are willing to bear in our search for connection.
Conceived and directed by Lauren Edson and Andrew Stensaas, featuring a handcrafted puppet by Jessica Nebeker, alongside a stellar cast from across the country, My Strange Darling weaves together original music, dance, and theatricality. The result is a haunting and imaginative mediation on our hyperconnected digital lives and the quiet ache beneath them.
