MADELEINE PEYROUX

Madeleine Peyroux

Madeleine Peyroux was joined by Jon Herington and Barak Mori. Their sound tech brought the beautiful and enormous stand-up bass to our studio in its own separate car ride.

Hers is a voice that’s enchanted us for years. To hear it in our own studio was a real pleasure. I asked Melissa to do the interview, so I could put all my focus on the mix.

I’m training new techs and forgot to turn my regular camera on. Work has been so crazy busy, this was a much-needed change of pace.

You may have heard Madeleine sing the Leonard Cohen song, “Dance Me to the End of Love.” She said they went through 25 Cohen songs, before settling on that one.

We enjoyed drinks from Idaho Konbucha. I’m always so thankful when our friend Carrie Hoff is in the studio to help. It really takes a village for these, they’re well-worth the time.

Her group had some great bass, guitar, and even harmonica features.

In chatting about music, Madeleine mentioned that it is good to stop and listen. She also said something I loved, “Silence is also music.”

I’ll admit I had a panic when I saw him  whip out the harmonica for this tune. He played it very tastefully though, single notes sounded almost like a concertina and so beautiful with the bowed bass. This song left everyone in silence at the end. Such a powerful tune and arrangement.

Join us Thursday for another session, third in a week! We’ll have Strumbellas in, and Kevin is doing the interview!

We’re about to get insanely busy with Treefort. Look for our Second Chance in-store performances at The Record Exchange, any minute now!

Cash contest starts Monday, you could win $2026!
