It was so great to have just one more session to add to 2025. We were very lucky to have another visit from Cassandra Lewis, who has a show tonight at Olympic Venue!
She’s been working on tons of new music, and this is the first time she’s performed this song live for anyone.
Nashville is Cassandra’s 33rd city she’s lived in, she calls herself an army brat. She has family in Star, Idaho, and comes through often for visits.
Cassandra’s new album will be called, “In Love and War.”
Catch her show tonight at Olympic Venue, and if you’re downtown for the potato drop, catch the VRT transit bus! You just might see Cassandra playing on the bus. Make sure to bring some extra tip money, and maybe sneak her a shot!
Cassandra’s voice never ceases to amaze me, and there’s such feeling and depth to her playing and songwriting. After the session I asked her if she had any tricks for helping her voice when going through a cold. Other than the Throat Coat tea, she says she discovered that using a vaporizer with saline is THE way to go! She also said, “A little bourbon also never hurts!” She mentioned her Treasure Valley roots and how she used to play at Pizzalchik in a Pink Floyd cover band, and has been known to sing “Great Gig in the Sky.” We miss her already, and can’t wait for the next time she comes through!
Some feelers…
Things change in a corporate world. Cassandra was once signed to a label, but last year the recording industry imploded and took with it several labels, including the one she was on. Over the years, I’ve lost countless friends I’ve worked with to unavoidable budget cuts. Each time, we grieve on our own, move forward and hope for the best. I realize that people are upset and sad about changes, about not hearing a long-time radio friend on the air. These are hard events that we have to process as well, privately. One person who I’d thought was a friend, left me a really unprofessional comment that I’d had nothing to do with Treefort’s success on our station. That one stung for a few reasons, our staff was and IS a team. There is no one person that makes all the things happen at any of our stations.
I hope at least a few people will enjoy the hundred of songs and videos posted and shared over the years, because I hope they’ll live on for many decades. I hope if I ever land in a different spot, that I can regroup like Cassandra. She said she stepped back and decided to take her time and do things different this time. With these latest videos, it felt weird to not include an extra name in the credits. I feel gratitude for all I’ve been taught and will learn in the future, and a comfort in knowing that nearly everyone I’ve worked with has returned to the mic, to the stage, to some form of this business. The music industry is tough. The radio industry is tough. The world is kind of tough right now. Like Cassandra, you dust yourself off and keep moving forward. People hunt for drama, but we really just want to share a hug at the next concert, give you tons of free stuff and swag, bring you mind-blowing shows this year, and keep building community. That is all.
