We had the great honor of being joined in studio today by Grammy Award Winner, Amanda Shires. She has 7 solo albums, and you likely know her work with The Highwomen, along with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris.
L. A. Times say, “Amanda Shires’ ‘Nobody’s Girl’ is one of the year’s most honest explorations of heartbreak.”
Her first instrument was a $60 Lark Fiddle. She had some lessons from a member of The Texas Playboys. She said they didn’t treat her like she was a girl. Amanda was half of a high-profile songwriter couple until a couple of years ago. She said, “Lucky thing for me is, I found music.” You can tell she is still going through it, and so many emotions can be felt on this song. Daniel Byers plays amazing swells in this song, with some very cool Billy Joel and Elton John accents. Tim and I agree that this might be one of the best-ever tunes we’ve seen performed in our live studio sessions.
Amanda had read that “listening to sad when feeling sad can help you feel hopeful.” She said the healing was beginning once she found the confidence to play again.
After the session, listeners and the band all enjoyed Flying Pie Pizza, and Idaho Kombucha. What a great session today! Tour manager Colie was really helpful, and only the 2nd female manager I’ve seen come through in years!
If you’re curious, Amanda requested these items on her rider.
November 1st, join us for a Palmyra session at 3pm!
