We had a session with a real troubadour today. I’ve seen John Craigie play in town a few times, and noticed it was usually to a SRO crowd. When I saw he was returning for not one, but TWO shows this week, I asked Tim if we could arrange a session
Before the session, I saw John noticing a mark on his guitar. It’s always a shame when you get a first ding on your guitar. He kept saying, “I know exactly where this came from.” I think I heard him say they’d done a show in Astoria, and a mic stand fell into his guitar. He remembered the drunk girl saying that she hoped it hadn’t gotten scratched.
John did some songs from his new album, “Pagan Church.”
After this song, I held up a sheet of paper and danced around until John could read that I was asking him to plug his guitar back in. He did so quickly and quietly. We always both mic and D.I. guitars, just for this reason. It’s also great to have a stereo mix on guitars.
John and his tour manager did 3 days of driving from Colorado to get to Boise. When they walked in, John noticed our Shook Twins signature on the wall, and mentioned working with them.
People enjoyed Port Of Subs sandwiches, and delicious drinks from Idaho Kombucha. These sessions are such an intimate way to see favorite artists, and get some after-session photos.
John Craigie has a math degree, but is very humble about it. He says when he writes songs, the words come first. Music and arrangements are more challenging for him, but you would never know.
His tour will soon take him to Australia, and he has never been. It’s great to watch this artist grow. Catch his show tonight at Shrine Social Club, and his 2nd show tomorrow at Egyptian Theater. We’ll be giving away tickets to that tomorrow, between 10 am and noon!
