Today was our first live session of the year. We were happy to bring in Douglas Cameron, and John Fricke. Douglas asked if he could bring his dog “Walt,” I said only if I could give him extra pets. Walt accepted a few treats from me, as we set up for sound check.
Douglas, John, and Walt were in for a specific reason, to talk about the upcoming Waltese Falcon Fund Fest happening May 4th at Red Lion Riverside. Many of the shows are free, at Bar 354 and Sandbar Stages. Douglas and John will be later opening for the Glen Philips show at The Sapphire Room.

Tickets for the Glen Phillips show go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 am, on the Sapphire Room website. Remember the funds go to help people pay for pet emergencies!
Tim especially loved this song.
The Waltese Falcon Fund Fest will be a full day of fun at Red Lion Riverside. They’ll have raffles, a photo booth, and other fun surprises.
We loved these guys, and hope they all return soon. Get those tickets tomorrow morning!
It’s funny, after the session, our engineers and another staff dude looked at the live FB feed we had just done. One person said it sounded really good. I almost said “thanks,” but waited. The main engineer said it’s because it goes through our processors. I waited to hear…”and because of the mix,” but it didn’t happen. Having come back from NAMM last weekend, taking hours more classes on sound production, and equality for female producers, this kind of surprised me. It’s not just the machines that make things sound good. Next time you are near a sound person, please let them know they did a good job. For me, I have done everything from remove Darth Vader noises from heavy breathing DJ’s between interview questions, removed plosives from vocals, vocalists coughing and clearing their throat during a song, and compensated for when people mute their guitars after tuning. With remixes I do at home, I’ve buried bad harmonies to bring out a sweet mix, and for our sister station sessions, have even made just a few of them sing in tune! Another sound guy in town bet me I couldn’t remove the buzz that plagued an entire off-site session he’d recorded for us. It took 2 hours, but I created a custom filter that made it sound pristine, there was no way to tell that it was previously unusable. Few people know it, but a lot goes on backstage, and it’s really easy to wreck a song with the wrong mix. Nerd confessions. I certainly love what I do! Can’t wait for John Craigie 2/14!
