ABRAHAM ALEXANDER

Abraham Alexander session photo

Our session today featured an artist born in Greece, and later moved to Texas. Abraham Alexander was in town to play a show at Knitting Factory’s 9th Street Parallel.

Abraham’s passion used to be soccer. After an injury, someone told him to turn his tears into something productive. I remember Danny from the band Scars on 45 telling the very same story about himself. Abraham hadn’t even been to a concert until he was 25.

Even though Abraham has only played guitar for 7-8 years, he is really honored that Gibson is dedicating a signature guitar line in his name.

We all enjoyed Port of Subs sandwiches, and sipped on some Idaho Kombucha during our session. Abraham Alexander was very humble, saying he’s learned to listen to the voice within, and that this music experience is so much bigger than he is in this world. He joked that he was kidnapped in Portland by his Uber driver, who was a fan. Abraham said he felt like he had lived 30 lives between Portland and Boise.

His album is called SEA/SONS, and features help from Gary Clark Jr., Leon Bridges, and Mavis Staples. Mavis sang on the album version of this song. It’s a song about the justice system gone wrong. Kalief Browder was 16 years old when he was wrongfully accused of stealing a backpack. He was sentenced to time at Rikers Island, where unimaginable things happened to him in the 3 years there. He could have been released right away, but his mom didn’t have the $3000 in bail money. Realizing he was innocent, the justice system let him out after serving 3 years. Kalief fought for justice, and demanded to see a judge regarding his wrongful imprisonment. That time never came, and Kalief took his life by hanging himself at his mom’s house.

Abraham Alexander has been on tour since March, and he’s looking forward to sleeping in his own bed. He’s excited to spend some holiday time with his family. We were so honored that he had time to stop by our Listener Lounge!

RECORD EXCHANGE RETIREMENT PARTY

FIRST THURSDAY, 5:30PM

Wristbands are now available for Thursday’s Record Exchange anniversary / Michael and Jil retirement party!

Due to limited availability, we are capping wristbands at two per customer, and they must be picked up in person in advance of Thursday’s party at 5:30pm. No holds, phone calls, private messages, etc. We are asking that you please claim a wristband only if you’re absolutely sure you’ll be able to attend.

If there are any wristbands left at 5:30pm Thursday, they will be available at the door on a first-come, first served basis.

The Record Exchange recently achieved two major milestones: 45 years of business and the first change of ownership in the store’s history. On First Thursday, November 2 (5:30pm), we are hosting a public party celebrating the store’s anniversary and the retirement of Michael Bunnell and Jil Sevy, who founded and operated the store from 1977 through early September 2021.

The festivities include:

– Live music
– Free beer courtesy of Boise Brewing (21+ w/ valid I.D.)
– Door prizes
– Raffles

As always, this Record Exchange event is free and all ages. As we expect to reach capacity, a wristband will be required to attend.rsa

Please join us for this intimate evening celebrating Michael and Jil and the first 45 years of Idaho’s largest independent music store!
