We loved having Devon Gilfillian return to our studios for a session. He remembered coming in years ago. He visited some with listeners and techs while we set up mics, cords, and lunch from our friends at Port of Subs. Sometimes we have techs tell random stories to sound check the mics, just for fun. They start a story on one mic, then move to another and continue the story so I can check balances on volume. Devon said, “I love this kind of sound check!”
Devon has a second album out, and he really enjoyed doing the Marvin Gaye project a few years ago. He spoke about working with Equity Alliance and fighting voter suppression. He mentioned that politics sharing has become divisive, and said we should instead ask each other, “How do we get on the same page?”
I was so excited that he covered, “What’s Goin’ On.”
His favorite thing was recording his latest album in his back yard in Nashville. We were so luck he is a part of Alive After 5. Devon’s next Boise show is October 18th, at Knitting Factory’s 9th Street Parallel. Ticket info HERE!
