Geese performance at Treefort

This Brooklyn group Geese met in high school and thought they would break up once they graduated, but their demos have gotten some record label attention and they’re out on tour.

Much love to The Record Exchange for putting on these Second Chance Performances, and sharing audio for us to do remixes!

San Diego group Thee Sacred Souls had such a good vibe.

Kari Faux was really fun. She’s an artist from Little Rock, Arkansas. She had some great song lyrics and twerking, everyone loved dancing. She is also a clothing designer. This song at the end has an F-bomb, if you’re listening at work.

The Regrettes were a fun group, a sort of punk band from L.A. They have a new album coming out April 8th.

Although I was busy a full 6 days as we started off Tuesday with Arlo Parks at The Record Exchange, I only got to see a few artists that were on my list.

While watching Smokey Brights at Camp Modern, a Seattle photographer sat next to me. He said he’d recognized me from previous Treefort shoots, and Bumbershoot, which is changing gears and going more grassroots. We talked about the importance of these festivals. I told him how much I miss the Sasquatch Festival. We talked about how that promoter now has the “Thing” Festival in Port Townsend. If it were more affordable, I’d run up there to cover it. At least I can get to the NAMM show in Anaheim again this year.

There’s a lot of protocol to getting a photo pass, and a great exchange of respect. Some bands only allow you to shoot the first 3 songs. I have been able to represent our station at huge events in L.A., Seattle, and The Gorge, along with press like NY Times, London Times, Rolling Stone Magazine and so many others. I take none of this for granted, and am always just as excited when I get media approval from someone the 3rd time as I was the 4th time. It all started with Treefort.

I’m 8 weeks out of recovery from colon cancer surgery. They said chemo would only help the stage I had by 2%. While I’m thankful not to be on chemo, and was able to cover Treefort, I feel like the rest of my life I’ll be looking over my shoulder. It’s been pretty scary in my brain. I didn’t quite have the normal stamina for Treefort, but did pretty well. On day 4, I lost my wristband and spent an hour freaking out about it until I found it on the street right where I’d parked. It was a miracle to find it still there. It was great to see so many friends and share so many hugs.

Back to Smokey Brights, they are planning to come back for a huge show in mid- July. We will share details as soon as we have them! Here’s a performance from an earlier Treefort show at The Record Exchange.
