Fries that Made Me Cry. Twice

For months, I’ve been saying that I have learned to like cold, slightly soggy French fries. It’s our food to-go life in the pandemic. But last night, I attended the preview night for Sid’s Garage at The Village at Meridian. The creators of the Donut + Dog, you’ve heard Will Primavera on the River before, opened this restaurant in the donut shop space. (the Donut + Dog is re-opening soon in Downtown Boise).

Sid’s is a garage-door restaurant, so semi-outdoors. The first sample brought to our table was waffle cut sweet potato fries. I have never seen sweet potatoes waffle cut! And. They were hot. And crispy. Fresh from the fryer. I hadn’t had that in months. There were tears in my eyes. You guys. I cried over French fries. Then, on the air this morning when I was telling Ken about them. I cried again. Dang pandemic + election stress.

Listen to the review below. I received some encouraging support texts at 208-287-2949 about how little things have made people cry lately. Thank you.

Soft opening for the restaurant continues this weekend. You know we’ve talked a lot about supporting local businesses, especially restaurants. Support something local.

Other items we tasted. The Jekyll & Hyde burger. Local Wagyu beef. Grilled peaches! Swiss cheese, stone ground mustard, bacon onion jam and mixed greens on a Brioche bun. So many complex flavors. I’m not a burger girl, but this was irresistible and perfect after my waffle fry tears.

Mac-n-cheese with four cheeses, toasted truffle bread crumbs, and candied jalapeno bacon bits.

Seared tuna salad.

Their milkshakes are creations I’ve never seen before. Piled tall with cereal toppings and even a lollipop.

First time my husband and I have been in a restaurant together since the first week of March.

Look, even the wall art is crying about how good the food is.
