Unless you want to make fried green tomatoes, or green tomato pie – and they are both delicious options, stop watering your tomato plants. The dryness and warm temperatures will nudge the fruit to turn red.
One of most useful things I learned when taking master gardener classes from University of Idaho Extension. It seems kind of mean to deprive them of water, but get over it. Another option is to cut them at the base. That’s too cruel for me.
Of course, tomatoes can ripen indoors after being picked, too.
