Pinball Collection Pt. 12

Inspired by the social media posts about favorite books, original art and albums, I’m featuring one pinball machine at a time from my family’s collection. Today, it’s Space Invaders, from the Bally Manufacturing Co., 1980.

This machine stops a lot of people in their tracks when they see it at my pinball clubhouse in Garden City. They remember playing it, or it’s confusing because it’s called Space Invaders, with elements from that classic arcade game, but that is clearly the Alien from the 1979 movie? That led to lawsuits back in 1980, by the way. Production of the machine stopped early and the copyright holder was sent several machines for free for the settlement.

More artwork details.

In addition, this is a wide-body game. So it’s a lot bigger than standard-sized pinball machines.

It makes the alien look even more imposing.
