Salad Turnips

Tamara Cameron with the Boise Farmers Market mentioned this last week, so I added them to my order. But I had never heard of salad turnips before.

They look like large radishes, and the similarity doesn’t end there. They have a light radish “bite.” Very light. They are much softer than radishes, with a sweet, buttery flavor. I sliced them up and added to them to salads.

Some people cook them. The sugars caramelize.

The market offerings are growing each week. Locally-grown fruits and vegetables, along with baked goods, jams and jellies, meats, pasta, sauces and pie. Also garden plants and flowers.

The Boise Farmers Market is taking reservations for the drive-thru pick up Saturday. Reserve a spot and then shop, at TheBoiseFarmersMarket.com
