They’re back!

Saturday morning, I heard this little hummingbird before I saw it. They’re back to the Treasure Valley right on time. They come here to raise the next generation, so put up your feeders. Refresh their food every few days. When it gets really hot, they need fresh food daily.

Hummingbird food recipe:

one part sugar, four parts water

stir to dissolve

That’s all you have to do to provide them the right nourishment. They do NOT NEED food coloring. They’re smart and know the feeders are filled for them.

They ARE territorial and you may see fights. Put up more than one feeder. Keep the feeders physical distanced, and maybe one out of line-of-sight.

We generally see three types in the Treasure Valley. Black-chinned, rufous and calliope.

Hummingbirds are most active mid-morning and early evening. I’d love to see your hummingbird photos. I bet they’re much better than the one I took Saturday. deb@riverboise.com
