The passing of John Prine was extra difficult for some of us, without having The Record Exchange to turn to. Over the years with the passing of artists like Prince, Tom Petty, David Bowie and so many others, I noticed the first thing to do is head to The Record Exchange. It was a place to have a wake. People bought music and posters, and talked with friends and strangers about their favorite albums and concerts. Almost without fail, there would be a live tribute concert within a month, time donated by local musicians.
Things are different with quarantine. You can still purchase new music and video via shop.therecordexchange.com and rare/collectible/markdown music and video via their Discogs and eBay stores for shipping to anywhere in the world! If you want to support the store directly, you can also purchase gift cards for future shopping once they reopen their doors.
It’s been especially hard to know we missed Record Store Day this last weekend. Thankfully, they offered up the brilliant idea of making the John Prine Tribute a virtual one. We have posted links to many of the videos, with tip links if the artists included them. This has been an especially hard time on performers, so please be generous if you can?
I can’t wait to see what kind of grand opening party The Record Exchange might have when things get back to normal. Meanwhile, enjoy some amazing Boise talent sharing their tributes to John Prine.
