Dessert Fritos, Alligator Meat and Oreo Drama

Happy birthday to one of my favorite local restaurants. Congratulations, Fork!

And happy 4th birthday to Meriwether Cider Company.

Matlack’s Public House in the former Pre Funk space on Front St. is open. Fritos for dessert? It’s on their menu.

The Daily Meal listed the Best Taco in Every State, and for Idaho, Tin Roof Tacos made the list. They do have delicious tacos and the prices are shocking. Only a couple of bucks. Locations in Boise and Meridian. Bonus: They often to fundraisers for local organizations.

Forbes Travel Guide gave its annual star to Chandlers Steakhouse & Seafood in Boise. Again. Hotel 43 also listed as a destination.

Feb. 20th was Idaho Potato Pizza Day. A holiday proclaimed by Firenza Pizza on Main near 9th in Boise. Firenza collaborated with the Simplot Company to design a potato pizza. Available for a limited time.

Traditional Mardi Gras foods have arrived at Reel Foods Fish market. Alligator, anyone? Head-on giant Louisiana shrimp, unseasoned crawfish and crawfish sausage, too.

I recently tasted a most delicious coffee with an even better aftertaste because of the benefits it brings to the people who grow it. Gorongosa Rainforest Coffee. It’s available in the gift shop at Zoo Boise, part of their humanitarian and conservation project connected to the Gorongosa exhibit. Learn more about the people who grow the coffee here.

In this week’s Oreo news, it all started with a clue in a USA Today crossword puzzle that claimed “some people” put mustard on their Oreo cookies. What they meant by “some people” was one person in a passage of one book written a long time ago. Of course, there was drama about it all on Twitter. People tried it. No one liked it.

Oreo cookies with the Supreme band printed on each red cookie debuted. Three cookies for $8, order directly from Supreme. That sounds expensive, but wait, people are listing them on eBay for hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Aren’t familiar with Supreme? Read more here.

This week’s Oreo drama ended with involvement of a fire department. Warming the cookies in the microwave is evidently a special treat, but you aren’t supposed to leave them in the package when you put them in the microwave. Or, this happens.
