Vintage arcade fans from all over North America meet at Grinkers Grand Palace in Eagle once a year for Grinkfest, to compete and geek out over the massive collection. More than 300 arcade games, and about a dozen pinball machines, from the ’70s, ’80s and early ’90s. Most were manufactured during the ’80 – the golden age of arcade games.
This year’s event was the 7th gathering. Competitions take place over two days. Not everyone competes. I attend to support the history and culture and hang out with some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
Some of those competing hold world records for game scores. Tough competition. They take home trophies and bragging rights and maybe a championship belt. Clint Wilder from Aurcade in Nashville models the belts. He’s the tournament admin.
