I stopped at McDevitt Pond on McMillan at Eagle Road a couple of years ago on a whim. It was a precious afternoon with my daughter. IDFG employees are very patient with all the tangled lines and ‘reloading’ the hooks.

We didn’t catch a fish. Although that would have been a learning opportunity. The trailer staff will demonstrate and coach on cleaning fish.

There was a learning opportunity about bees, though. I got stung, so we got a close view of how a stinger is embedded into the skin and why a bee doesn’t survive the ordeal.

In the olden days when I was a kiddo – in the pre-Nintendo DS and pre-smartphone world – I fished often.

I don’t remember eating that fish, although generally, anything I caught was fried in a skillet. I do remember that jacket. My favorite!
