Idaho State Pinball Championship

The top 16 ranked pinball players in Idaho competed Saturday to crown a winner, who will compete in nationals in Las Vegas in March. Myself and my daughter were the only girls in the top 16. My husband went into the competition ranked #1.

Players got to choose machines based on bracket position.

Players in the video warming up before the competition. A lot of people wear headphones when they play to block out the sounds of other machines and any distractions.

I lost my first round. First player to win 4 games moved on. I won two games straight on the KISS and Flight 2000 machines, but then Doug Brown beat me on the next four games. He’s a really good player.

Our two youngest ranked players are both teens. Aviana, my daughter, and David. They ended up competing against each other. The group that promotes pinball and hosts tournaments, Treasure Valley Pinball, loves kiddos. They have a different set of skills and reaction times, and win often.

After hours of competition, it was down to the final two players: my daughter and my husband. I cheered for both of them! But I couldn’t watch. It was an emotional moment when it was over.

The Idaho State Champion is Dwayne Smith. Aviana placed second. Nolan Fellows was 3rd. Erik Carruth placed 4th.

I finished 11th. Proud not to finish last with all these skilled players.

Our next Treasure Valley Pinball gathering is a casual tournament. Jan. 29 at 6 pm. Show up at 5 for free lessons. All ages and abilities are welcome. bring a snack to share. Tournament details on Facebook at Treasure Valley Pinball, or email Treasure Valley Pinball There is a group just for girls, too. Belles & Chimes Treasure Valley.
