Why is there a fishing lure inside a pinball machine?

Old pinball machines sometimes have unexpected…treasures. When a new-to-us machine comes into the family, it gets a thorough check. Sometimes, critters have moved in. Insects are OK, mice are not. We haven’t encountered any mouse droppings yet, but there have been some other interesting artifacts. A machine a friend picked up last weekend had this inside.

Broken parts, spare pieces, fittings, a penny and a fishing lure. There’s rarely ever an explanation. Sometimes it might make sense. There are several fishing-themed pinball machines. Fish Tales is one example.

But the machine with the fishing lure inside had nothing to do with fishing. It is a Hollywood-themed machine from the 1970s.

Here’s a piece of Idaho history found in a machine acquired last year.

And Boiseana found in the same machine.

Pojo’s! Who remember Pojo’s Nickel Palace on Fairview Ave.?

By the way, if you are interested in learning how to play pinball or compete, details about meetups for our organization can be found on Facebook – Treasure Valley Pinball. The girls-only version, Belles & Chimes Treasure Valley information also on Facebook. Everyone welcome, all abilities, all ages.
