The Famous Idaho Potato drop gets a lot of attention on New Year’s Eve. It’s become a day-long event for the whole family. But my family has been dropping potatoes since before it was cool to drop them.
It’s a neighborhood tradition. On our block, we gather to play games and feast and then do a champagne toast to the New Year while throwing potatoes on the floor.
Sometimes, we decorate them. Sometimes we drop them with poppers so there is confetti and streamers. Sometimes we decorate them.
Yay, potatoes!
